Books with Bomb Instructions

To what extent to you agree or disagree with the following statement?

Books with instructions on how to make bombs should be banned from all school libraries in the Littleton District.

Please explain your thoughts carefully (all responses should be at least three sentences long), and remember to be professional with your grammar, spelling, and word choice.

  1. I don't think it would make a difference if they had bomb books in the library. If a student wanted to make a bomb, they could just look it up on the Internet.

  2. I agree with this. There is no reason that we need to have books in the library about making bombs. If we had books about making bombs kids would make bombs and ultimately the world would be destroyed.

  3. It would be important for books on how to build bombs to be banned because a student may try to build a bomb which would hurt the lives of others. Although the student may find an alternative way to build a bomb, the less resources they have would give the district a safer approach.

  4. I don't really think it makes a difference whether there are books that have instructions on making bombs in the libraries. Like Shane said, if kids are planning on making bombs, then there are other ways of figuring it out, and removing books from the library wouldn't make a difference.

  5. I agree we don't need books about how to make bombs. There is no use for them. The only thing it would do is tell kids how to make bombs and give them ideas about actually doing so.

  6. I agree with what Shane H. says. if there is no books to tell them how, there is a website or even video on how to make one. if we did have books about making bombs, then there would be a lot more incidents like Colombine.

  7. To some extent I agree that all books about making bombs should be banned from the district because it creates a potential dangerous situation if the information in the book were used. But I also agree with Shane in the fact that even if someone wanted to make a bomb and could not acquire the information in a school library they could always look online. The benefit of having it removed is so that even if someone is looking for a book the potential for them to find a book about making bombs would not be there and then it would not provoke any ideas.

  8. I think that they should be banned because a violent student may want to make one. they should not ony be banned in just this district, but all the other schools districts. People may want to use them to blow up their school to get rid of people that they dislike.

  9. I do not agree with this statement because if someone really wanted to make a bomb they could just look it up on the Internet. although i do not see why someone would want to make a bomb at this age, library's that don't have books about bomb makings isn't going to stop them from just looking it up on the Internet.

  10. I don't think that we should have books about making bombs. Even if we got rid of them it wouldn't make a difference, this generation gets more off the internet then books by far. We should still get rid of the books though.

  11. I agree with this statement because that would just influence some kid to build a bomb. Also there is no reason why they should have that in the library, so it should just be taken off the shelf. Books can influence people to do things and influencing them to hurt people is not right.

  12. Like what Erica said I don't think it matters if they ban bomb instruction books because people can find it on the Internet. If people really want to make a bomb they are going to find a way to do it.

  13. I disagree with this statement for many reasons but to starts off, there is no reason they should be banded. This is because even though I might pick up a book about how to make bombs, that doesn't mean that I am going to blow the school up. It could mean thats just what be the career field i am looking into or I am curious about how to make bombs.

  14. I agree with this, but it wouldn't stop people from finding out how to make bombs because of the Internet. The only way to stop people from getting the instructions is to stop all of the ways people could get the instructions, not just one way.

  15. Books with instructions about how to make bombs should most definitely be banned. It is good to spread knowledge but that type of knowledge supports the manufacturing of those items. Books describing bombs and their functions should not be banned however. Understanding the anatomy of a bomb is extremely different then knowing how to create and use one.

  16. I think that having a book about making bombs is stupid. It influences and educates kids on how to make a bomb. They could plan to harm others.

  17. I think that the schools shouldn't be allowed to control what books we can or cannot read. It violates the constitutional rights that we are all guaranteed by allowing the government to have that much control over what we do, read, or even say. Isn't that one of the reasons why we fought in the Revolutionary War to have our own freedom from oppression? Why would we want to be put under oppression again?

  18. Mitch, I disagree. What job requires making bombs, that is legal? I do not think school is the appropriate place to be reading up on bombs.

  19. I agree because why would you want to know how to make a bomb if you aren't going to use it..? It seems really sketch if your checking out a book like that and they should be banned so no one will make a bomb.

  20. I think that a book just on how to make bombs shouldn't be in the school, just because that has nothing to do with anything but making bombs. But a book that just happens to have it in it should not be banned, and if someone really wants to make a bomb, then the fact that there isnt a book on it in the school library isn't going to stop them

  21. Kaityi- I agree with you

No one should be curious on how to make a bomb unless it involved some kind of destruction to a building or community.

  22. I don't think it would make any difference whatsoever because if someone really wanted to make a bomb, they could just use one of the 50 some computers we have in our libraries. With technology these days people aren't even going to books for information as much as they used to. We have the Internet now, and anyone can find the information they want in 0.08 seconds with Google. Eliminating books would make no difference.

  23. I agree with Shane on how it wouldn't make a difference. If people really wanted to build a bomb they could just use a computer. Even if they were banned from school libraries, the books would still sit on the shelves of public libraries.

  24. i agree with Kaityi there is no reason for the tax money allotted to school to be spent on books teaching kids to build bombs. that is not a useful skill and doesn't need to be taught to students. also students do not need to be spending their school time learning ways that could injure others.

  25. I agree with emilyw i think that they should take out books on bombs in schools because then kids may find how to build a bomb and they may have a mental problem and build one and possibly blow up the school or hurt someone.

I have to say when I was writing about this i didn't even think about the Internet factor. It seems like such an obvious answer but I'm glad you brought it up. The books on how to make bombs at the library really do not even matter. Anything can be found on the Internet and if a student really wanted to make a bomb they could easily go on the web and find out how.

  27. I agree with Shane. There are other places to learn how to build bombs and possibly even youtube videos with step by step information.

  29. Mitchell2012 I disagree with you. What career field would a 16 year old be looking into that involves blowing stuff up? I'm pretty sure that the only job that does this is either someone who is mining or taking down a building, both of which I'm pretty sure you need a college degree for and a license.

  30. Emilyw- I agree, if the district were to get rid of the books then students would still just find another way to make a bomb if we were to tie up resources it would be a step in the right direction.

  31. EmilyW- I agree with you because if these books were banned then people would be limited to knowledge of making bombs.
