Rated R Movies

To what extent do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

People of any age should be admitted to any movie, regardless of that movie's rating.

Please be thorough in your response (all responses should be at least 3 lines long), and remember to be professional with your grammar, spelling, and word choice.

  1. I do not agree with this. You can not have toddlers walking into a rated R movie because they would become corrupt. However, I do think they should lower the age.

  2. I believe that everyone is at a different level with their maturity. Those with more maturity no matter the age should be allowed to watch R rated movies and those who are not very mature ( who could even be in their 20's) should not be able to watch R rated movies, or at least in public.

  3. I do not agree with this statement because children should not be shown the graphic images displayed in a Rated R film. there is a reason for ratings and if any age is allowed in any movie then its encouraging children to view the bad movie.

  4. I agree totally 100% with this. I think that the best movies that are coming out these days are rated PG-13 or R, most of them being rated R. I think that people should be allowed to see what they want to see. I don't think that it's fair for them to sensor things that they make money off of, when really they could make even more by permitting everyone to see what they want to see.

  5. I agree with Kaity, little toddlers shouldn't walk into rated R movies, its just not right. The age I believe is to high. We have all seen or heard about these things or maybe even worse in these movies.

  6. I think that allowing anyone to see a movie no matter the rating is a good idea. If a parent doesn't want their kid seeing a particular one then the parent shouldn't allow it, not the movie theater. That and it's more of a maturity issue, some older people can be less mature than children.

  7. i disagree with this statement because i don't think that children of different ages should be allowed to see some movies. if they admitted anyone to any movie then it would be much harder for parents to filter what their children watch. it has been proven that what you watch will affect how you act. watching a lot of violent movies makes kids more likely to be violent. To prevent this and help parents raise their children according to their belifes i think that the age limits on R rated movies should be kept.

  8. i do not agree with this quote. if rated R films were available to everyone, then wouldn't five year olds be able to go into a liquor store and purchase a five pack of beer? emilyw stated that the maturity level was a huge factor. i fully agree. those who can handle that sort of violence and/or horror in an R rated film and not get any sick ideas from it can go see it.

  9. I do not agree with the above statement because everyone is at a different maturity level. Kaity makes a good point by saying that toddlers shouldn't walk into an R rated movie. To an even further extent, young kids wouldn't understand what they see in a R rated movie and wouldn't know how to handle it.

  10. I feel like there are many issues with this on a regular basis. Many kids see movies no matter what the ratings and their parents don't seem to care or see the significance. I don't feel like this age requirement should be dropped completely, but I kind of think it should be lowered a tad. Just because there is some swearing in a movie it bumps it up to an R rated is not completely fair, because we all know all teenagers have seen movies that are R rated against the age requirement. Kids below the age of...13 maybe should not be exposed to things in R rated movies. They don't need to be seeing or hearing the things that are going on, even if they say they have heard of all it before, they don't need to see people in movies doing it because that causes an impact on their life and as kids they follow what famous people do because it's cool.

  11. I agree with this statement because it is not right for a child to see such bad things until they are older. It should be the parents choice to make the decision if they want there child seeing that. Also you can wait till it comes out on dvd if you really want to see it and your parents let you.

  12. I don't agree with this, because everyone is different with what they can handle or watch. I do think that if a person is under age and they wanted to see a rated R movie just have your parents get the ticket or have a friend that is of age to get one for you.

  13. this idea is really ignorant, would you think it would be okay if you saw a three year old swearing and already understanding what sex is, we have the rating system in place so that the young aren't early exposed to sex and violence and swearing, so that the parent can have some control on the child. Now there are some cases where the rating system should be changed but not completely abolished, that would just make things even worse.

  14. I don't agree with this because everyone should know what they can handle and the parents should use good judgment if they are thinking about bringing a 6 year old into a rated R movie.

  15. I agree with the statement because everyone should be able to decide what is right for them to watch. Young children may not be able to choose what is right for them; but that's why you never see a really young child at the movies by their self. If we have other people making choices that we could be making our selves then there is not point in living in America. It is supposed to be a free country; but I cannot see a rater R movie. That's a crime and it's taking away my freedom as an American. It is also a little bit Hypocritical. We are supposed to be free; but if the government tell me I cannot watch a certain movie then it's wrong. I believe the ratings should be guidelines not laws.

  16. I am independent once again because these days almost all movies are rated R when they curse very few times. But also people these says will get offended by anything so you must say the movie is rated R because of that. i think the movies should say what is said, what are the scenes like and what the movie is about. If a child is influenced by the movie than it is the parents fault because they let there child see it.

  17. I think that they should lower the age at which kids could go in because at 15 or 16 kids understand most of what happens in the movies.

  18. I agree with Jake because you don't want someone who can't handle a movie go in and watch it. If your underage and want to see a movie thats R then have your parents get you a ticket.

  19. I disagree with the statement because a little kid watching a rated R movie with violence will give them the sense that it is okay to be violent. By having an age limit set on who can see what rated movie it provides a boundary of what is acceptable in society and what is not because when you are young you don't know what is right and wrong. The age limit allows full maturity to happen so that they know what is right and wrong in the society when they are finally allowed to see a certain movie and they will not follow what happened in a movie because they know it is wrong.

  20. I think that most people underage would be fine seeing an R rated movie. However, like previous people have said, a little toddler probably shouldn't be watching some of these movies. I think it is up to a parent's discretion whether their kids see an R rated movie.

  21. Like many of you above I do not agree with allowing people of any age into any movies. There are too many scenes in movies that children should never see. Especially children that are old enough to understand certain facts about life (like death), should not be allowed to see movies that have death and gore all the way through them.

  22. I don't believe that anyone of any age should be allowed to see any movie they want no matter the rating. Most R rated movies are good movies yes, but most are also about mass murdering or evil creatures or psychotic people. Kids should not be allowed to see this kind of movie. Most kids would be scared and even if they aren't this is just another thing putting horrible evil ideas into the heads of our future.

  23. I think anyone over the age of 13 should be admitted into any rating of movie. At age 13 people are partially matured and they need to start making their own decisions and learning from those decisions. If a 13 year old went into a rated R movie and got too scared, it's no ones fault but their own. They will learn from that not to go into scary movies and if they continue to go into those movies and get scared it's their own fault.

  24. I like the idea that nick brought up about the theaters just wanting to make money. If you think about it they are making twice as much money if they make you take an adult with you.

  25. I don't agree with this statement because the ratings are put there for a reason. Like Kaity said you can't have toddlers walking into a R rated movie. That is their parents decision. The rating is a little high, but there are some things people younger than that age are to young to see.

  26. I think that anybody should be able to watch a "R" Rated movie because if they want to watch it you should be able to. If you think that you are mature enough you should be able to see it and if you or an adult say you may not.

  27. Nick K, Yes most of the best movies today are rated R, but there are some people that just should not be allowed to see those movies. Younger kids might think they want to see this but then when they go to see it they are terrified. The things in R rated movies are just not for some people. There do need to be some restrictions.

  28. I agree with this question because you should be able to decide if you are able it see a certain movie, and if you feel that you shouldn't see it then you don't have to!

  29. @ Meg R

I agree with you when you say that the age limit should not be dropped completely. I think that 13 is probably a good age but when you get down to it, its just about the person's individual maturity level.

  30. I like jakes idea of the ratings being "Guidelines" for the content that is displayed in the film. This would allow people to go to the movies, but it would keep the theaters out of being "responsible" for children seeing movies that may be inappropriate for them.
