You're Being Watched

To what extend do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

Numerous security cameras should be installed both inside and outside Arapahoe High School so that nearly every part of the school is under constant surveillance. This way, we can ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Remember to be thorough in your response (all responses should be at least 3 lines long), and to be professional with your grammar, spelling, and word choice.

  1. I think that this might be a good idea because it would keep everything under control and it would enforce good behavior, and whoever is watching the surveillance could see if there was an intruder on campus and/or illegal substances such as drugs, or weapons.

  2. I agree with this statement because the safety of the students should be the first concern and security cameras can capture the evidence if a crime has been committed at AHS. Also if students know that there are cameras around watching them, then they wont commit the crime.

  3. I agree with this because in the past few week people have gotten things stolen and nobody knows who is doing this. Surveillance is a good thing to have anywhere.

  4. I agree with the security cameras, but I think that putting them all over so the school can see everything is going to far. The school should have them at all of the entrances and and one in the hallways, but not all over.

  5. I'm not entirely sure in which direction I would go in this case. Yes, I agree putting camera's outside and inside would better help students and teachers focus and keep everyone safe. Yet, there is the issue of rights, because we are supposed to be a free country yet having camera's everywhere can be rightfully seen as an invasion of privacy. The placement of these camera's is also an issue, not necessarily an issue for being outside but when they are inside they could be in bathroom's and locker rooms. The use of the camera's located in such rooms can be abused, and people can look at these tapes who don't have a right to and to me it just sounds like that is asking for bad things.

  6. I completely agree with the statement because it is for our safety. We should not be scared of the cameras if e are not doing anything wrong. If you are against these cameras then you have something to hide and are doing something wrong.

  7. I agree with the statement above in the fact that security cameras should be installed inside and outside the school. I don't agree that the security cameras should be in almost every location in the school because it can make the students feel uncomfortable in the school environment. I also disagree with putting the cameras outside so they can watch the students across the campus. I believe that the outside cameras should only serve the purpose of watching the doors or windows to ensure the safety.

  8. i agree with that statement because it would help insure the safety of everyone at Arapahoe. It would also deter kids from doing things that they know they shouldn't, such a s stealing or bullying. I don't think that it would be invading anybodies privacy, as long as they were not in the bathrooms and locker rooms, because school is a public place and and therefore you should not expect to have privacy and if you aren't doing anything wrong then why would it be a problem if someone is watching you.

  9. I agree with this idea because it would allow for, if anything did happen like an intruder, people to see exactly what happened, and it would help to keep kids from doing things they shouldn't because of the thought that someone is watching everything they do and the people who disagree with begin watched are hiding something

  10. In my opinion the statement above has numerous positive outcomes, but the statement also has a clear short coming. By setting up a very high level security/camera system it does insure safety and truth. If something happens, there is no way to lie about the event, so that discourages people from performing those actions in the first place. However, there seems to be an obvious issue with statement and it comes in the form of funding. Setting up such a system would require a lot of money, so it is questionable whether the high safety of students and teachers is worth the investment. There is already a degree of safety around the school, so the question is whether the investment is really worth it. However I do agree with the statement.

  11. This would be a a good idea. It would help teens to make good decisions. It would also mean better security since our school is so open and just about anyone can just walk in with out being questioned.

  12. well it is in some cases an invasion of privacy but why would you be doing personal things at the school. In this society almost everyone here has a home that they can go to, where they can hang out and do things. So if you think it's invading your privacy just go somewhere else it's not like they have cameras at your house.

  13. I agree and disagree because we have our right to privacy but if bad things are going on then the cameras should be installed to see whats happening. It doesn't seem like a big deal to me because its only going to be beneficial.

  14. I don't think this is necessary until our school has a problem. So far Arapahoe feels too safe to be putting cameras everywhere. Even if a student is misbehaving, they can still feel like they have lost freedom while entering school.

  15. I totally agree with nicks statement that we should enforce it so that we can all be safe. Also keeping the kids safe is a top priority for everyone.

  16. I agree with JakeL2012. they should be installed in the classrooms and more powerful cameras outside in order to catch people smoking across the street and the like.

  17. I agree with everyone really because everyone is saying that it would be good, which I agreed to begin with, and I also agree with everyone that is saying that it's a bad thing because it violates our rights.

  18. I think they should install more cameras do to all the recent school shootings.

  19. I agree with this, because it would allow a higher safety factor at Arapahoe.I think that it would make it easier for the school to make sure that no one is on campus that isn't suppose to be. But i think that there are limitations to were they could put them. For example there shouldn't be any in the bathroom cause that would be an invasion of privacy.

  20. I disagree with this question; sure there can be a certain amount of security cameras, however i think that that many security cameras can become a little invasive of our privacy. I personally think that all the teachers should be able to carry guns and make sure that everyone knows that they carry guns. It would be a safer environment and it wouldn't be invasive of our privacy.

  21. Greetings to you comrads! I'm from first hour so I'm supposed to comment on this or something. I like Meg's response because for a lot of these issues there really is no answer its about balancing it out instead of saying yes or no, compromise. That is what we do in our world, we compromise from both opinions so everyone is happy. I agree with her when she talks about the cameras taking away kid's rights at the school. She also goes to the other side and realizes funding is an issue. Very heads up and smart response Meg. BYE

  22. I think that there is a limit to how you can put cameras in a school. Putting them all over the place is good and will increase our security. but you cant go putting them in the bathrooms and locker rooms, thats just over the top.
