Are you ready for battle? Is Macbeth?

Before we finish reading Macbeth, I'd like you to use this blog to make a few predictions based on the patterns you have noticed in Acts 1-4.

Please make at least TWO predictions and explain what pattern has lead you to these predictions. In other words, make an argument for each prediction.

Here are a few topics you could consider:

Which part of the prophecies made in 1.1 and 4.1 will come true and how? Which ones won't?
What will ultimately happen to Macbeth? How?
What might happen to Lady Macbeth?
Who dies at the end of the play, and who gets to live?

  1. 1. The witches will be right about everything they predicted. The witches have not been wrong yet. Why would they be wrong now.

    2. Macbeth will die. There is a trend of thanes killing kings. I predict that Macduff will kill Macbeth and he or Malcom will become king.

  2. One of my predictions is that Macbeth will eventually loose his mind completely. I am led to believe this because both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth have been steadily becoming more guilty and acting on ideas rather than logic. Another prediction that I have is that either Macduff or Malcolm will kill both Lady Macbeth and Macbeth. I think this is a good prediction because both Macduff and Malcolm have something against the couple and will want revenge one way or another.

  3. 1. I predict that Lady Macbeth will die because of all the guilt inside her. The guilt is eating her alive and she can't save her mental state.

    2. I predict that towards the end of the battle between Macbeth and Malcolm, Macduff will fight Macbeth for revenge. He will kill Macbeth and bring a trophy back with him as a prize. This proves that not all of the witches' prophecies are true.

  4. 1. I think one, Macbeth is going to die. I'm not sure how yet, but he's either going to kill himself because he's starting to go insane, or someone else is going to kill him like Macduff or something.

    2. And I think that the witches WILL be wrong, sorry Jake, but I think that everything else is starting to go wrong, for example, when Macbeth kills Duncan. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth had planned it so that they would kill him and nobody would ever find out that it was them. But then Banquo figures it out, Duncans sons figured it out, and I just think that they're going to start to be wrong about their prophases.

  5. My first prediction is, like Kristin, that Lady Macbeth will die. But unlike Kristin's, I think that Macbeth will go completly crazy and accidently kill her while trying to keep her quiet and to not tell anyone. My second prediction is that Macduff will try and kill Macbeth, and that Macbeth will kill Macduff and then still try to be king, because this was the whole motive behind killing everyone. This will also be why Macbeth will kill Lady Macbeth because no one can know what he did to be king.

  6. I believe that Macbeth is getting more and more evil throughout the story. He started off not wanting to kill Duncan and other's, but now he has started slaughtering innocent people and no longer thinks about his actions. I predict he will end up killing more and more till the end.
I also believe Lady Macbeth will end up killing herself because of the guilt and how the murders have transformed her mind and now control her. She has gotten worse through the story and is now insane because of all thr guilt and sadness she feels.

  7. 1. Although Lady Macbeth acts as if she is not affected by all the murders, she has shown through her sleepwalking that is has affected her just as much as it has affected Macbeth. I agree with samw and think that Macbeth will end up killing Lady Macbeth because nothing is stopping his mass killings so why would he not kill his wife?
    2. I believe that Macbeth will be hung at the end of the play because the hanging at the begging of the play may have been foreshadowing this. That way the book would be written like a cycle.

  8. 1. I think that Macduff might come to Macbeth's Castle to kill him becuase Macbeth sent somebody to kill Macbuff's wife and children.

    2. I think there might be a huge battle between Macbeth and one of the Thanes or trees because of the apperations.

  9. I think the trend in the play is that Macbeth keeps getting more evil with his murders. They use to mean a lot to him to kill one person but now he's on a role and it doesn't affect him as much. I think Lady Macbeth will end up dying more likely than Macbeth. I believe this because she was the reason why Macbeth murdered Duncan in the first place and got started on a murdering journey. If she dies then Macbeth may be healed. His source of guiltiness will be gone which will allow him to return to his normal state of mind.

  10. I believe that Lady Macbeth is going to die because we wont see her anymore in the play. I also think that Macbeth will completely loose his mind and I think he is going to kill himself after he kills a bunch of other people. If he doesn't kill himself I believe he will be hung because at the beginning Shakespeare tells about a hanging and this could be foreshadowing for the end of the play.

  11. 1. My first prediction is that lady Macbeth will die when she is sleep walking by falling down stairs. I believe this because we know this is the last time we're going to see her so obviously she dies, and I think she’s going to fall down stairs because she’s basically walking around unconscious.

    2. I think that by the end of this play everyone will be dead. The reason for this prediction is because death seems to be a motif in this play, and it would just seem like a suitable ending for this bloody play.

  12. 1. I think that by the end of the play Macbeth will have died, Lady macbeth will have either been killed in front of Macbeth or murdered and Macduff will have lived.

    2. I think that the witches professes only came true at the beginning of the boo and the one that were given in 4.1 are supposed to set Macbeth up and give him to much confidents in him self which will lead to his down fall/ death.

  13. 1. I agree with Devon when she siad that Macbeth will end up totally loosing his mind, because as she also said, it has been a progressive characteristic of Macbeth. He has continually gotten more crazy and more disturbed so I believe that he will end up going totally crazy!
    2. I also think that the witches prophesies will be followed, but that there will be a twist in how things happen. Macbeth got a lot of confidence when they told him that he would not be harmed by any thing born of woman, so maybe somthing will happen that he goes so crazy that he falls of a wall (or somthing like that) as Macduff is coming to attack him (so Macduff didn't actually do anything, but Macbeth did die). I also think that somthing will happen that will make the trees in the Great Birnum Wood move toward his castle (like a mighty storm), and then he will die. In the end, Macbeth will somehow die and the witches proqhesies will come true as well (like Jake said) because they have been right so far.

  14. 1. I believe that Macbeth will see karma and that he will be killed later in the play. I think people will soon find out what he has and who he has become and they will hunt him down. He will never be able to be king which was what he wanted all along and now is has become a disaster.

    2. I believe Lady Macbeth will die to because if Macbeth dies which i have just predicted, she will have to die also. I will be truly surprised if she lives and Macbeth doesn't. Her wanting to be queen was just asking to much.

  15. 1. I think Macbeth is going to die although I'm not sure how, but he's either going to kill himself because he's already insane so what is stopping him, or Macduff will somehow kill him. And i also think that Lady Macbeth will kill herself because of the guilt that has been built up.

    2. And second I think that Everyone will somehow evenually die because thats what you and everyone else told me. But i also think that because almost everyone has been threatend and been killed.

  16. I predict that lady Macbeth is going to kill herself. I predict this because as the story has gone on lady Macbeth has gotten more "guilty". Next I predict that Macduff will kill Macbeth. I predict this because Macduff is very angry because Macbeth killed his family and the proficy said to beware Macduff.

  17. I agree with what a lot of people have said so far. More specifically, I agree with what Kaity said about Lady Macbeth clearly being affected by the murderers, which was shown by her sleepwalking. I also agree with Devon and Austin about Macbeth completely losing his mind. I don't think there is any way he can stay sane considering everything he has done and the effect it has had on him so far. I think that Macbeth will end up having died by the end of the play. I also think Lady Macbeth will have died. Shakespeare has had a lot of people die in this play, and I don't think that pattern will change after this far into the book.

  18. I think that the witches will play a role in the upcoming fighting, and their actions will decide the winner. This is because they have had such a large role in the story up to this point and I think it's been leading up to them deciding the ending. Also I think that Macbeth is going to end up killing lady Macbeth because he has been going more and more crazy and will possibly end up blaming her for what has happened

  19. I think that the witch's predictions will become true for every apparition. I think that the witch's vocabulary is very hard to understand, I think they use words to confuse the situation and their own predictions. An example of this would be when the witches state Macbeth will never be killed under a woman, but there must be a catch or a unbelievable exception to this like a ghost or his own hand will kill him or something. I think that Lady Macbeth will die somehow to eliminate her from the story so Macbeth has nothing left and that's when he will be most vulnerable. Somehow Banquo's family must endure this because according to prophecy his family is in line to be king for a while.

  20. 1)I predict that Lady Mactbeth will kill herself because of theguilt that she has for all of the murders.

2)I predict also that Macduff will be able to get his revenge on Macbeth for killing his family.

  21. 1. The prophecy that "Macbeth shall sleep no more" will come true. I think he might get killed or kill himself.

    2. I also predict that one of Banquo's sons will be king.

  22. I believe that Macbeth will kill Lady Macbeth because he finds out that she is sleep walking and he is afraid that she may tell of his drastic deeds.

I beleive that no one will live through this story mainly because it is so bloody.

  23. 1. I think that Macbeth will either kill himself because of the guilt that was put upon him or he will be hung by one of Duncan’s sons.
    2. Next I think that everyone involved with Macbeth or that supported him will be killed and I also think that somehow Basques sons will become king because everything that the witches predicted will come true so why wont this.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 1) I believe Duncan's sons, Macduff and Fleance will all team up and take over Macbeth. That would make two of the proficies come true (beware of Macduff and Bannquo's sons will become kings.
    2) I think Lady Macbeth will end up killing herself, she has all the guilt built up and is sleep walking and trying to wash blood off her hands

  25. Which part of the prophecies made in 1.1 and 4.1 will come true and how? Which ones won't?
I think that almost all the prophecies will come true except i have douts for Banquos children becoming king, What I think will happen is the army that Malcom is raising will be camoflaushed in Birnam wood and that Macduff will kill macbeth and we will find that Macduff had been ripped prematurely from his moms body, so he technically won't be a naturally born baby.

What might happen to Lady Macbeth?
I think that Lady Macbeth will eventually loose her mind and she will eventually kill herslf like the doctor predicted.

  26. 1. I think that Macbeth will die by Macduff because of what he did to his family.

    2. Lady Macbeth will kill herself because she has gone crazy from all the guilt.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 1. Malcom won't become king i think that the witches prophesy will come true and instead Banquos son will become king. Weather innocently or not all their propheseys have come true so far.
    2. Macduff will kill Macbeth. i think that one of the key contrasts macbeth is trying to show in this play it good against evil. that is exactly what Macduff is against macbeth so it would make sense that one of them has to win in the end. Macbeth is loosing his mind so i think that in the end Macduff will win.

  28. i believe that all of the prophecies will come true, the scottish and english are led by the framed. they come in stealth and attack.

Macbeth will kill a few but when he faces macduff, he is killed.

Lady Macbeth will lose her mind to the guilt of killing King Duncan and ultimatly kill herself.

Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, a few hundred soldiers all die while the rest get to live.

  29. I think that Macbeth will die and give up fighting and Macduff will have an easy shot to kill him.
I also think that Banquos son will become king instead.
